Art

There area variety of art courses offered at CCSC.

While the theme for each course is different, there are a few common objectives:

In art, students will…

  • Learn about and use various materials and techniques to make hands-on art projects
  • Follow the steps of the creative process to make thoughtful 2-D and 3-D artwork
  • Use a sketchbook to plan, draw and write about artwork

Middle School Art:

This class is for grades 6, 7 and 8. While the project options change for each grade, the unit topics remain the same for each grade level, allowing students to build upon their foundational knowledge of art and design. Students in MS Art will create and use a sketchbook in class and will not be given homework. Students will have opportunities to learn about and use a wide variety of art materials and approaches, as well as regular access to art exemplars to learn from and discuss.

High School Art:

This class is for grades 9 and 10. While the project options for 9th and 10th graders will differ, the unit topics will remain the same for both grade levels. This allows students to continue to build upon their foundational knowledge of art and design. Students in HS Art will have opportunities to learn about and use a wide variety of art materials and approaches, as well as regular access to art exemplars to learn from and discuss.

Studio Art:

This senior level art course meets four times a week and gives students a chance to develop a portfolio of artwork based on themes they have each chosen to investigate. There is a semester of guided projects and technical instruction and then a semester of independent work which is informed by individualized instruction and peer feedback.
