Wellness and Movement (affectionately known as "WAM" to our students) combines a physical fitness program and relevant topics in health education. The health curriculum, based on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework, covers physical health, social and emotional health, safety and prevention, and personal and community health.
Information is presented through lectures, videos, team-building activities and class discussion (and for the 9th grade, a peer education program taught by specially trained students from Harvard, Tufts and other neighboring universities). The physical education component includes a variety of sports and activities to give students an opportunity to exercise during the school day.
NEW Dress Code Requirement for WAM Days in 2015-16
Starting in 2015-16, all students are required to wear special WAM dress code attire on days when they have WAM class. Students must come to school wearing their WAM t-shirt and sweatpants instead of their regular dress code uniform on WAM days. The new WAM t-shirt and sweatpants cost $25 per set (one price for both pieces). Optional mesh basketball shorts may be purchased for an additional $18.
