I didn't always speak Spanish well, although I am the first generation born in the United States in my family.  I was afraid of speaking Spanish among so many non-Spanish speakers in my hometown.  In high school, I started my journey to what would eventually lead me to decide on majoring in Spanish in college.  I was 18 years old when I made a vow to become bilingual in four years.  My graduation gift was a trip to Puerto Rico to see my family, but my real gift was being able to communicate with everyone comfortably in Spanish.

I started teaching right after college.  I was excited to share my newfound love for the language with middle and high school students.  I taught in different schools and learned from each experience and environment.  When I joined CCSC’s founding faculty in 2005, I was excited to be part of a team that would start a school with a mission to know students really well in order to ensure success.

I believe that all students can learn and reach the goals that they want to achieve. In order to achieve those goals, students must be willing to take risks and challenge themselves. It wasn't easy to overcome my shyness when I spoke, but the more I practiced with my teachers, my classmates, my friends, my family and with strangers, the more confident I became.

I enjoy teaching students the Spanish language and Hispanic literature, history and culture. I love all levels of Spanish because they are all unique.

CCSC is unique, too, and that is what makes it such a rewarding place to work.
